Nominating Committee Report
Proposed slate of candidates for the new Bridge for 2008 - 2009.

This will be an exciting year for CPS Kingston, and we foresee improvements to the delivery of our courses and are diligently looking at ways to streamline the volunteer activities that produce our social events and dissemination of information to members.  We are building on the years of hard work and dedication put in by all the volunteers, and particularly those who have volunteered to hold bridge positions.

Our goal is to acknowledge the contributions of bridge officers and to change incumbents in these positions every two years for several reasons which include avoiding burn-out and to bring fresh new ideas to the membership. Several long standing members of the bridge tell us every year that although they are willing to continue in their positions for another year, they would gladly step aside to bring new members onto the bridge.  In actual fact it has been only the Commander, Executive Officer, and Past Commander positions that have actually changed on that basis regularly.

The duties are not onerous with our team approach to the tasks involved - "many hands make light work", and not all volunteers are needed to attend regular meetings.

The two committees that do require attendance at meetings are:

The Social Events Committee holds meetings as required, usually four per year. That committee is responsible for organizing the Annual Picnic and Graduation; the Annual General Meeting, the Members' Nights, and other events over the years such as the February Brunch, a summer boating trip, Bus Trips to the Boat Show in Toronto, and an end of season event such as the trip to Jones Falls.

The Bridge traditionally holds regular evening meetings every month except July and December.

The Bridge Positions are:

1. Commander - whose role is to represent CPS Kingston to outside organizations, to chair bridge meetings, to attend squadron functions, to attend District meetings, and to "keep the boat afloat"; and to have fun!

2. Executive Officer - whose role is to take on special projects, to perform the Commander's tasks in the Commander's absence, and to take on the Commander position when the Commander steps down. and to have fun!

3. Secretary - whose role is to take and prepare minutes of meetings, and to advise CPS Headquarters of changes in Bridge Officers and of their contact information. and to have fun!

4. Training Officer - whose role is to organize classes, organize and encourage volunteers to teach, organize Course Registration Nights, and the general administration of examinations, student records, and ordering of educational materials. and to have fun!

5. Treasurer - whose role is to perform simple book-keeping, keep records of all financial transactions, make monthly and annual financial reports, issue invoices, and collect and disburse funds through the bank account. and to have fun!

6. Social Events Coordinator - whose role is to call and chair meetings of the Social Committee, provide a calendar of events, keep and follow checklists for organizing the various events, delegate tasks to the volunteers on the committee, provide invoices for expenditures to the Treasurer, and report Committee activities to the Bridge. and to have fun!

7. Companionway Editor - issues four "Companionway" newsletters each year, assemble stories and publish a calendar of events. and to have fun!

8. Supply Officer - whose role is to order course material from HQ, keep inventory, and oversee access to the squadron storage facility. and to have fun!

9. Public Relations Coordinator - whose role is to promote CPS Kingston to outside organizations and to aid with getting the message that we teach boating to the public. and to have fun!

10. Membership Officer - whose role is to keep up to date records on members and publish a membership roster annually. and to have fun!

11. Webmaster - continuous improvement of website, keep website up-to-date, instruct various bridge officers on how to keep their website sections up-to-date. and to have fun!

12. Historian - whose role is to keep archives for the squadron. and to have fun!

13. Assistant Training Officer - whose role is to assist the Training Officer. and to have fun!

14. Auditor - whose role is to audit the Squadron's annual financial report prior to the AGM. and to have fun!

15. MAREP Officer and Port Captain - whose role is to keep the squadron and Coast Guard up-to-date with unpublished changes to local navigation, and to welcome CPS members visiting by boat from other squadrons. and to have fun!

16. Past Commander - whose role is, when called upon, to offer advice to the bridge and continuity. and to have fun!

CPS provides a CPS Manual to each bridge member to help direct him or her in the functions of CPS and the volunteer positions.

CPS offers an Instructor Training Course (free at CPS Kingston).

The teaching positions are: any part(s) of the course(s) you are excited about!

We encourage any member who would like to take a more prominent role in CPS Kingston to contact a member of the nominating committee to get some more information on how he or she can get more enjoyment out of membership in CPS Kingston, and at the same time give something back to the organization.

The final list of nominees will be published and distributed prior to the AGM.  Any member can make a nomination.
