Free Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks

The Canadian Power & Sail Squadron (CPS) is working in partnership with Transport Canada’s Office of Boating Safety to raise awareness of boating safety issues and encourage all pleasure craft operators to follow safe boating practices.

Qualified Boating Safety Specialists are available to conduct a FREE Courtesy Check of your recreational vessel (sail, power, personal watercraft or canoe.)

In a nutshell, here is what a CPS Boating Safety Specialist does: At the invitation of the boat owner and with reference to the appropriate section in the   “Safe Boating Guide", the Specialist reviews the safety equipment required by law.  Boats that meet regulations are issued a CPS  RVCC decal.   The reviews are confidential and there are no penalties for deficiencies.

To arrange for your free vessel courtesy check, email the Kingston RVCC Coordinator at KPS.RVCC@gmail.com  and provide the following:

  1. Your Name and contact information
  2. The type and size of vessel
  3. The location of your vessel

You will be contacted to arrange an appointed time and place that is mutually convenient.

Volunteers needed to become CPS Boating Safety Specialists

We are currently seeking volunteers who may be interested in becoming a Safety Specialist for the Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks (RVCC) program.   Please let us know if you would like to get involved in the RVCC program.  You can contact us at  KPS.RVCC@gmail.com

To become a Boating Safety Specialist, you will be invited to attend an RVCC training seminar.   The training session is a short 2.5 hours and is open to all CPS members within the Squadron.
